In The Shadow Of The Study Hogwarts Legacy Quest Walkthrough

In Hogwarts Legacy, players encounter several dark and engaging relationship quests that deepen the story of Slytherin student Sebastian Sallow. Among these, In The Shadow Of The Study stands out as a pivotal quest where players venture deep beneath the castle into Salazar Slytherin's secret Scriptorium. This quest introduces complex environmental puzzles, lore regarding the Gaunt family, and a serious narrative choice involving Unforgivable Curses.

Starting the Quest and Unlocking the Hidden Entrance

To begin this quest, meet Sebastian outside the Slytherin common room after reaching character level 17. He will introduce you to Ominis Gaunt, a descendant of Slytherin who holds the key to opening the secret corridor. To reveal the doorway, players must quickly ignite three braziers located in the hallway using fire spells like Incendio or Confringo.

Navigating the Snake Locks and Slytherin Gates

Once inside, players must repair a broken relief on the wall to allow Ominis to speak Parseltongue and open the Serpent Door. Beyond this entrance, you will encounter locked gates with matching Slytherin Locks. To unlock each gate, inspect the symbols on the iron bars and align the top and bottom dials of the nearby lock to match. Speed is required here, as taking too long will cause the lock's snake mechanism to attack and deal damage.

Facing the Dark Magic Choice in the Scriptorium

At the final chamber door, players find themselves trapped in a room inscribed with a grim warning. Progressing requires someone to cast the Cruciatus Curse on another character. Players must make a choice to either learn Crucio and cast it on Sebastian, refuse to learn it and let Sebastian cast it on them, or decline entirely. Choosing any option allows access to Salazar Slytherin's desk to claim his lost spellbook and complete the quest.
